

80 years of D-Day in the Esterel Côte d’Azur: all the festivities
In August 2024, we will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Provence Landings in the Esterel Côte d'Azur region. Ceremonies, historical re-enactments and exhibitions will pay tribute to the soldiers who liberated France during the Second World War. These events will provide an opportunity to remember their courage and the importance of freedom, inviting residents and visitors alike to take part in this vibrant tribute.

In Saint-Raphaël
15 August 1944, the day the Allies landed in Provence, holds a special place in the history of Saint-Raphaël. To honour this event, the town is offering a week of patriotic festivities from 10 to 18 August 2024.
- IN JULY: Publication of a book on Saint-Raphaël 1939/1945, based on a collection of documents | Daily life, Italian and German occupations, Resistance, D-Day, Liberation, Reconstruction.
- FROM 10 TO 17 AUGUST: A village will be set up on the beach esplanade, with an ephemeral shop and media library area, activities and events (children's workshops, guided tours, scuba diving, film screenings, exhibitions, immersive experiences, etc.) and evening festivities.
- SATURDAY 10 AUGUST: Festive events in the late afternoon and evening, exhibition of period vehicles, book launch and presentations of the week's events, with a concert and musical entertainment in the evening | Esplanade du Débarquement
- SUNDAY 11 AUGUST: Jazz concert (Le Caveau de la Huchette) | Esplanade du Débarquement
- MONDAY 12 AUGUST: Play about the D-Day Landings | 60 to 80 actors (American and German soldiers in period costume), set of old vehicles to immerse the public in the atmosphere of the event.
- TUESDAY 13 AUGUST: Open air screening of the film "La Grande Vadrouille" | Plage du Débarquement
- WEDNESDAY 14 AUGUST: Patriotic and classical ceremonies with a detachment of musicians from the 36th Texas Division | Viaduc d'Anthéo

- FROM 9 MARCH TO 2 NOVEMBER 2024: Estérel Aventures & its historical rally "The 36th Division" | In the Dramont district, set off on a journey through the various stages and
that led to the Provence Landings in August 1944. You then have 3 hours to discover the treasure hidden by Jack's grandfather, the hero of the adventure. - JUNE 6 2024 TO MARCH 31 2025: Musée Louis de Funès | Exhibition "On the road with Louis de Funès and the Provence Landings" with themes and anecdotes from anecdotes from La Grande Vadrouille, but also an exhibition of real helmets and uniforms worn by French and British soldiers, and immersion with virtual reality helmets to help the two protagonists of the film. The programme is subject to change according to official national commemorations and the agenda of the Presidency of the Republic.

In Fréjus
FROM APRIL 6 TO DECEMBER 13: The Troupes de Marine museum in Fréjus is presenting an exceptional selection of objects, uniforms, memorabilia and vehicles.
Discover the diversity of the men and women who took part in this other "D-Day" and liberated Provence. Educational aids, computer graphics, film, staging... an exhibition for everyone.

In Roquebrune-sur-Argens
THURSDAY 15 AUGUST: The Delta Force 44 association and the town council pay tribute to the servicemen who took part in the Allied landings on our coasts.
On the programme:
- At Les Issambres: Reconstruction of a US military camp, ceremony commemorating the Allied landings in Provence, dance with the musical group Kontrast and fireworks with sound and light.
- In the Village: Ceremony to commemorate the Allied Forces landing in Provence, fête votive, Notre Dame procession with bravado and aubade, Provençal mass followed by the traditional danse de la souche and aperitif with anchoiade, dance with the Sharm musical group and fireworks at the Aréna lake.

In Puget-sur-Argens
THURSDAY 14 AUGUST:
- Parade with the 36th Texas Division at 9.00 am
- Photo stops planned (local campsites)
- Big evening with the G.I
- Tex/Mex meal Chili con Carne
- Followed by a G.I Glenn Miller show at 9.00 pm and the traditional public dance
Numerous events will be taking place throughout the Var to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Provence landings.
