The Vallée Rose Market
Located in Fréjus for 7 years, I find there every week all the seasonal products I need to cook. At the moment, the stalls are filled with clementines, kiwis, pears and oranges of all kinds (including the sanguines I love) on the fruit and potato side, leeks, cabbage and other broccoli for vegetables. Because here you will not find tomatoes and courgettes in winter.
In turn, the producers, almost all from the PACA region (mainly Var, Alpes-Maritimes and Bouches du Rhône) ensure the permanence.
The market is at the heart of the estate of Mr Meneganti, a little man with a warm welcome. He recently told me that the common goal of the producers, which he sorts by hand (visit of the farm, surprise control of the harvests, members of the PACA region...) was to offer a wide variety of quality seasonal products. All of them hope to fight against the so-called local producers located along our roads.
The success of this authentic market is so important that it has had to be refurbished: larger warehouse, wider aisles to move around... but the atmosphere is just as simple and warm.
Fruits and vegetables are mixed with many other regional products.
Come and have a look and discover wines, jams, honey, eggs and even poultry or good duck ravioli.
If you come on a Tuesday, you will meet a trout farmer. On Wednesdays, it is the turn of the pig and lamb farmer. Fishermen even come to sell you their daily catch on Fridays.
