Sanctuary of Pelagos
The sanctuary of Pelagos is 87 500km² dedicated to the protection of the marine mammals of the Mediterranean Sea. It is the subject of an agreement between Italy, Monaco and France for the management of the coastal and high sea territory. The area is recognised as being of scientific, cultural and educational interest.
Species of the territory
The sanctuary has no less than 8,500 animal species, including predators such as large marine mammals.
We present the most emblematic of our coasts.
Blue white dolphin
There are between 20,000 and 45,000 individuals in the sanctuary. They usually stay in packs, they are curious and playful and do not hesitate to approach the bow of the boats, for our greatest pleasure. If you meet him during your outings share your best pictures with us !
Sperm whale
It can measure up to 18 m for 40 tons. A true symbol of the seas, through Moby Dick, its extraordinary capacities allow it to dive to more than 2,000 meters depth for more than an hour. This makes his observation very difficult.
Little trick : the steam jet produced by the sperm whale is oblique while that of the other whales is vertical.
Rorqual (fin whale)
The fin whale is the second largest animal on the planet with its 22 m long and you can observe birth in the Mediterranean !
It can live up to 80 years and every year we have the chance to observe births off the coast of Provence.
