The village of Montauroux
Discover the village of Montauroux, one of the 9 hilltop villages of the Pays de Fayence! This village is the first you will cross as you head towards the Pays de Fayence. With its surface area of approximately 33 km², it hosts a surprising diversity of landscapes: Provençal village, shores of Lake Saint-Cassien, Fondurane reserve, Siagne river, forests, fields, crops... This diversity gives it a great charm and will allow you not to be bored during your visit!
Historical heritage of Montauroux, an 11th century village
Between typical Provençal squares, doors with engraved lintels, fountains and washhouses, parish church... Montauroux has an historical rich heritage that we recommend you to discover during one of the guided tours offered by the tourist office!
The chapel of Saint-Barthelemy
Bequeathed by Christian DIOR in 1953, the Saint-Barthélémy chapel is located in the heart of the village. It is easily recognizable with its barrel vault and walls covered with painted wood. Many of its paintings are classified as historical monuments.
Visits : Exclusively in July, Mondays and Thursdays mornings from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Fountains & washhouses
If you walk through the village's alleys, you will find many fountains and old washhouses, testimonies of a past life where life took place in the presence of animals.
Montauroux means by the way "the golden hills", in reference to the gold represented by the waterways that crossed the village.
